Yes, it’s the return of Get Blogged by Terri! You thought this feature was dead, didn’t you? I know. So did I. Guess what?
We were wrong!
When I first started blogging two years ago, I took great pleasure in roaming around the internet discovering new blogs to read. Eventually, my blogroll expanded (to epic proportions, I’ve just noticed) and I’ve now got more than enough great reading material to keep my mind stimulated, tickle my funny-bone or pull on my heartstrings any time I like. Whenever I want to escape my current world, all I have to do is click on that blogroll.
I sometimes miss those days when it was all brand new to me and there were treasures to be found on a daily basis. These days I often struggle just to keep up with all the literary genius that currently makes up my blogroll, much less go searching for more. Life, work and various other obligations keep me from exploring the blog world as much as I’d like.
But once in a while, a link on one of my regular haunts leads me someplace utterly fascinating. Once in a while another writer finds his or her way to my page for the first time and a return visit to that writer’s site proves to be a total delight. Once in a while another talented writer becomes a stop on my list of “can’t miss” daily reads.
I’ve been thinking about some of my newest discoveries the past few days and decided that they are simply too good not to share.
One such blog that has caught my attention recently is Blog Harbor written by Christopher Gabriel. Christopher paid my blog a visit and I soon learned he lives right here in my home state of Minnesota. (He obviously resides in a more affluent community than I, as evidenced by the fact that he has a warm, dry “bubble” in which to run, as opposed to my community, which leaves me to the mercy of the elements. But I think I’d rather face the elements. Christopher has to face the lady in purple when he runs! I’ll take my icy running path, thank you!)

Christopher is a former professional stage actor and has also been a local radio personality. Suffice it to say, I was ever-so-slightly star-struck to be visited by a local celebrity! He’s a very funny guy, too. Anyone who recognizes the name Garrison Keillor and A Prairie Home Companion will be in stitches after listening to this parody. It’s the first installment of a new feature called The Farmland Almanac on Blog Harbor. I had tears falling from my eyes, I was laughing so hard!
Christopher obviously has an incredible wife too. Wendy has the power. Apparently all wives have this power and it depletes our husbands of their masculinity and decision making abilities. It makes them believe they like to bypass television stations such as ESPN for Oprah or QVC. (Christopher, I must add that we women obviously haven’t perfected the power. We have yet to figure out how to get you to clean your whiskers out of the bathroom sink. Our work is not done yet!)
(As an added bonus, Christopher’s wife, Wendy has her own lovely blog too. Go check out My Green Side for your daily dose of eco-friendly advice and the adorable-ness that is Wendy and Christopher’s little girls. They are so cute you can hardly stand it!)
One of the best ways to get to know the Blog Harbor style is to check out the handy-dandy Best of link so go pay a visit soon! There are brand new features to enjoy as well. In addition to The Farmland Almanac, there’s a new photographic feature. Eye on Monday looks promising as an offering of photos from Christopher’s world. Those of us living in the Twin Cities area will probably find much that looks familiar here. And for fans of the audio-blog, check out the comedic Gabriel Theatre on the Air. So stop by Blog Harbor right away. I guarantee you’ll soon be hooked, just like me.
Go.
Now.
What are you waiting for?
OOOHHH! I know what you’re all waiting for! It wouldn’t be a Get Blogged by Terri post if I didn’t award the t-shirt, now, would it?
Christopher, I hereby present you with your very own Get Blogged by Terri t-shirt. Wear it proudly, my friend!

Funny site.
I’ve been a long time listener of Garrison Keillor’s program and his style/humor is in the same vein.
I agree that running in a bubble just doesn’t quite seem right. Something about the challenges of slippery sidewalks, trecherous trails, wicked weather, and frozen fingers makes the run more real. No pain, no gain.

Sounds worth checking out. I love a good laugh.

Even before I checked out Blog Harbor and learned about the photo feature, I’d been thinking about doing something like that. My photo would be from a trip and have a “story” which I’d relate.
But as you point out, blogging and keeping up with other blogs can suck up the time. I’m amazed how much more time it has taken than I thought it would. And I only blog once a week!

Robert – it took a couple of comments from you to clue me in that you were blogging again. Welcome back! I visited your new blog. Tried to comment. The stupid word verification thing never loads. Should’ve come to WordPress!

Beyond being blessed with a wonderful family and a terrific life, there are few things I enjoy more than the chance meeting with someone — be it in a store, on an airplane or…through a blog — who turns out to be a person of great character. Someone who has depth, intelligence, humor and gives to others without skipping a beat.
In the short time I’ve gotten to know you through your great blog, that’s who I’ve discovered is behind Terri Terri Quite Contrary.
Thank you for this wonderful piece. Honestly, it caught me (and Wendy!) completely by surprise. I read the title of this post moments ago and only after the third time did I realize you meant “Blog Harbor” as in the one I publish…
And this is typical of me these days. A bird could land on my head and I’d walk five blocks before figuring it out. I blame this on the pounding my ears have taken having two little girls in the house. The barrage of sound has penetrated my brain in ways modern science has not figured out.

This is an awesome blog! I checked it out and ended up laughing my butt off. My girlfriend yelled at me from the living room, asking if I was alright.
Thanks for sharing! I’m a fan!

Love this blog!
It’s so nice when someone you love gets some well-deserved recognition! Christopher is smart, witty and an awesome writer. I wish that someone here in MN would wake up and pick up his radio show!

Thank you, Wendy!
I am so glad to have been introduced to both yours and Christopher’s blogs. After listening to The Farmland Almanac and Gabriel Theatre, I wondered myself how it could be that he’s not on the air here RIGHT NOW! I hope something comes along soon.
